Redken did 15 shows in New York, another three in Paris and four in Milan where four major trends emerged for spring 2006.
Redken has been working behind the scenes at Olympus Fashion Week in New York for the past four years. This season they branched out and added shows in Paris and Milan under the artistic direction of famed session stylist Guido Palau. The lineup was impressive, a veritable Who’s Who of the fashion elite, including Prada, Marc Jacobs, Esteban Cortazar, Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, Jean Paul Gaultier, Gucci, Balenciaga and many more. What emerged were three major trends: Off the Face; Natural, Healthy Hair; and Texture and Volume.
Off the Face
A lot of designers chose to pull the hair off the face this season. We saw everything from sleek and polished looks to disheveled, messy styles. At Prada, Guido Palau created a simple, immaculate ponytail with intense shine to complement the sexy, minimalist collection that featured light summer dresses and shocking pink patent leather shoes. We also saw this look at Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga.
Natural, Healthy Hair
Sometimes less is more when it comes to great hair. Coifs that appeared au naturel were a hit on runways at Versace and Esteban Cortazar. The look is shiny, soft and glamorous. More important, they’re easy styles that every fashion goddess can wear.
Texture and Volume
This season we saw texture and volume return to the runway in many imaginative forms. At Gucci sexy, feminine waves with lots of shine were de rigueur, while Marc Jacobs and Luella Bartley chose more bohemian-like blends with a matte look. At Betsey Johnson, voluminous tresses coiffed to perfection paid homage to Brigitte Bardot, while Carmen Marc Valvo asked us to imagine Las Vegas in the 1960s.
