Clones or not, Guido’s severe beauties—chicettes donning glossy black wigs punctuated with blunt-cut bangs—are the result of an amalgamation of inspirations: pinup Bettie Page, ’50s and ’60s Japanese manga dolls, and bourgeois women. “The Lanvin woman is very feminine, yet powerful,” Guido asserts. And although Elbaz desired a uniform look, “the wigs took a bit of convincing. Ultimately, Alber said, ‘Go for it,’ and we created this very strong hair statement.”
