How-To: 2 Neon Hairstyles

Neon hair colors are a trend that never go out of style.

PRAVANA senior artistic educators Tiffany Lobdell-Summers and George Blanco shared two tutorials to create gorgeous, vivid neon hair looks using PRAVANA products.

Follow the tutorials and formulas below to brighten up your client's locks this fall.

Tiffany Lobdell-Summers's Neon Look:

Formulas: 

Lightening Formula: 40g. Pure Light Ultra Lightener + 60g. Pravana 10 Volume Creme Developer

ChromaSilk VIVIDS Formulas:

• Formula 1: 40g. VIVIDS Black
• Formula 2: 40g. VIVIDS Silver 
• Formula 3: 60g. VIVIDS Neon Yellow 
• Formula 4: 60g. VIVIDS Neon Green 
• Formula 5: 50g. VIVIDS Neon Orange 
• Formula 6: 50g. VIVIDS Neon Pink 

Application: 

1. Pre-lighten the hair to a clean Level 10 utilizing your favorite Global Blonding method and Pravana’s Pure Light Ultra Lightener + 2 parts PRAVANA 10 Volume Creme Developer. 
2. Shampoo with Pravana’s Intense Therapy Cleanse and dry completely.
3. Section the hair by taking a radial parting from behind the ear to behind the ear. Divide into the Pravana standard four quadrants by taking another parting from nose to nape.
4. Beginning at the nape taking horizontal sections, apply VIVIDS Black to the ends of the hair creating a block effect and mirror on the other side. Then, taking a small triangle on the front hairline, apply VIVIDS Silver melting into VIVIDS Black. 
5. Process for 20 minutes at room temperature, shampoo with Pravana’s Color Protect Cleanse and dry the hair completely. 
6. Divide the hair into two sections by taking a parting from nose to nape. 
7. On the right side, starting at the bottom in the middle of the half-head section, divide the hair into three subsections by taking a large “V” parting.
8. Take another medium “V” parting above the first section, leaving a small inverted triangle for the top parting.
9. Apply VIVIDS Neon Yellow to the larger bottom section from scalp to ends, apply VIVIDS Neon Green to the middle section and apply VIVIDS Silver to the top inverted triangle section.
10. On the left side of the head, repeat the same sectioning.
11. Apply VIVIDS Neon Orange to the bottom section, VIVIDS Neon Pink to the middle section and VIVIDS Silver to the top inverted triangle section.
12. Process for 30 minutes at room temperature.
13. Rinse with cold water and high water pressure until the water runs clear, then apply Silk Degrees Prep & Treat for five minutes and rinse.
14. Detangle with Pravana’s Intense Therapy Leave-In Treatment.
15. Apply a few drops of Pravana’s Hydra Pearl Oil and a nickel-size amount of Pravana’s TRUITY Blowdry Cream; comb through to distribute evenly.
16. Style as desired.

Formulas: 

Lightening Formula: Pure Light Ultra Lightener + 2 parts Pravana 20 Volume Creme Developer

Overlay Formula: ChromaSilk Creme Hair Color 20g. 9.8 + 10g. 9.23 + 10g. ChromaSilk VIVIDS Everlasting Pastel Potion + 60g. Pravana 10 Volume Creme Developer

• Formula 1: VIVIDS Neon Yellow 
• Formula 2: VIVIDS 30g. Yellow + 3g. Magenta

Application:

1. Retouch new regrowth utilizing the Lightening Formula, processing up to 55 minutes at room temperature and checking every five to 10 minutes until you reach a Level 10.
2. Shampoo with Pravana’s Intense Therapy Cleanse and dry completely.
3. Apply the Overlay Formula and process for 30 minutes at room temperature.
4. Shampoo with Pravana’s Color Protect Cleanse and dry completely.
5. Balayage VIVIDS Formula 1 into VIVIDS Formula 2 on the mid-lengths and ends, then process for 30 minutes at room temperature.
6. Rinse with cold water and high water pressure until the water runs clear and apply Pravana’s Color Protect Condition.
7. Detangle with Pravana’s Intense Therapy Leave-In Treatment.
8. Apply a few drops of Pravana’s Hydra Pearl Oil and a nickel-size amount of Pravana’s TRUITY Blowdry Cream; comb through to distribute evenly.
9. Style as desired.
