Get to know Christiana Sayyah (@glitter_artist). She is a hairstylist and owner of Glitter & Geeks Salon in Marietta, GA.
Q&A:
Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What is a fun fact about you?
Christiana Sayyah (CS): I'm a Disney adult and huge Harry Potter fan!
BLP: How did you get your start in the industry?
CS: I went to cosmetology school and graduated in 2015. I then worked at various salons until moving to Georgia in 2016. From there, I took an endless amount of free hair models to build my business. I worked weddings as my side hustle for years until I was able to go out on my own.
BLP: What is your proudest accomplishment?
CS: Opening my salon and other stylists wanting to work with me is something I never dreamed would actually happen.
BLP: What is your current favorite hair trend?
CS: I love color blocking!! It's so fun and always looks different depending on how you style it.
BLP: What is a tip you have for your fellow stylists who are looking to grow their following on socials?
CS: Consistency is important! Post regularly, and make sure your content is engaging your audience.
BLP: What advice would you give to the younger version of yourself just starting out in the industry, looking back on your whole career?
CS: Do the numbers! Sit down and budget for yourself because you're doing better than you realize you are.
BLP: What is a valuable hair tip that you want to share with your fellow stylists (whether it’s a business tip or something related to styling/working with hair)?
CS: Take hair models!! Practice is what will make you better, and it's also a fantastic way to be creative and try new things!
BLP: What inspires your work?
CS: A lot of the time nature and fandoms give me inspiration. Color always reminds me of something I've seen in real life or on the screen.
BLP: What is something that keeps you passionate and motivated in the industry each day?
CS: Knowing that I am valued by my peers and client's really helps me get up in the morning and keep striving for success.
BLP: What changes would you like to see the industry make in order to grow/change/evolve/be better than it was before?
CS: Toxic salon culture has got to go!! I've heard so many horror stories, and there's absolutely no reason for it. Encourage those around you, and help your fellow stylist instead of dragging them down.
BLP: What is a career goal you have for yourself?
CS: I want to eventually purchase the building I am in and expand. I would love to have a building in the back for classes and eventually a second location.
