Get to know Shelby Aldstadt (@paintitblonde). She is a hair artist at Golden Hour Hair Lounge in Huntington Beach, CA.
Q&A:
Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What is a fun fact about you?
Shelby Aldstadt (SA): I have a serious case of wanderlust! With a passport full of stamps from seven different countries, I'm always on the lookout for my next adventure. Mexico, Colombia, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Thailand and the UK have all been part of my adventures. My favorites? Tulum, Koh Samui, Florence and Lisbon.
BLP: How did you get your start in the industry?
SA: Right from the start, the beauty industry captivated me, so I pursued my first passion: makeup. Later on, driven by a desire to broaden my skills, I ventured into the hair world. Now, blending my expertise from both realms, I get to work my magic, making women feel beautiful and confident every step of the way.
BLP: What is your proudest achievement in the industry thus far?
SA: My proudest achievement thus far is definitely opening my own salon — a welcoming haven where clients and stylists alike feel understood, empowered, and inspired. I'm incredibly proud of what it represents — a place where good vibes reign, creativity thrives and everyone feels uplifted.
BLP: What advice would you give to the younger version of yourself just starting out in the industry, looking back on your whole career?
SA: Remain positive even during the most challenging times, and stay dedicated and focused on what you love. Remember to embrace your uniqueness because there's only one you!
BLP: What is your current favorite hair trend?
SA: My current favorite hair trend has to be curtain bangs. They have the ability to elevate every custom hair color, and they're just so fun to style!
BLP: What is a valuable hair tip that you want to share with your fellow stylists (whether it’s a business tip or something related to styling/working with hair)?
SA: Definitely prioritize ongoing education. No matter how much you feel you know, there's always more to learn! Whether it's mastering new techniques or staying updated on the latest trends, continuous learning is key to staying ahead in the industry and providing exceptional service to our clients.
BLP: What inspires your work?
SA: I'm inspired by the ever-changing world of hair. From new techniques to fresh styles, I love staying updated and bringing the latest trends to my clients. Being part of a creative community fuels my passion, and there's nothing better than seeing the confidence a new hairstyle can bring to someone. That's what keeps me excited and inspired every day.
BLP: What is something that keeps you passionate and motivated in the industry each day?
SA: The opportunity to make a positive impact on my clients' lives. Whether it's through a transformative haircut, a stunning color transformation or simply providing a supportive and uplifting experience, the ability to help others look and feel their best is incredibly rewarding.
BLP: What changes would you like to see the industry make in order to grow/change/evolve/be better than it was before?
SA: What would be amazing is to have more opportunities for us in the beauty industry to connect and form genuine friendships and work relationships. Whether it's through events, workshops or online groups, fostering these personal connections can bring invaluable support and collaboration, making our industry even stronger and more inclusive.
BLP: What is a career goal you have for yourself?
SA: Becoming an educator in the beauty industry is a personal passion of mine. I love the thought of sharing my knowledge, my skills and my passion with other stylists and up-and-coming professionals. My goal is to inspire them to reach their full potential, excel in their craft and make a positive impact in the industry we love.
