Q&A:

Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What is a fun fact about you?

Sandrelly Soto (SS): I’m a lefty!

BLP: How did you get your start in the industry?

SS: I started as an assistant while I was still in school for six months until I got my license. I highly recommend assisting while you’re in school, if possible. The skills you learn can be applied to your guests in school and give you a chance to be more hands on.

BLP: What is your proudest achievement in the industry thus far?

SS: Learning how to work with textured hair! I hated my curls growing up. Being able to learn more about them has helped me to embrace my own texture and inspire others to love theirs as well.

BLP: What advice would you give to the younger version of yourself just starting out in the industry, looking back on your whole career?

SS: Stay consistent, and never give up! Things may seem hard right now, but they will get better. You’re going to learn so much about yourself and your craft. Be proud of how far you’ve come, but give yourself grace because you’re just getting started!

BLP: What is your current favorite hair trend?

SS: Subtle blonding! I love a soft sunkissed look. It’s so low maintenance but brings so much light and dimension to the hair.

BLP: What is a valuable hair tip that you want to share with your fellow stylists (whether it’s a business tip or something related to styling/working with hair)?

SS: Our industry can be so taxing physically but sometimes we neglect the mental exhaustion. It’s so important to take care of yourself in both aspects. If you’re not comfortable, don’t think it’s a good fit or you simply don’t have a passion for it, don’t hesitate to say no! Set boundaries early on!

BLP: What inspires your work?

SS: Creativity! I love being able to take an inspo picture and add my unique touch by adapting techniques and tailoring the style to suit each individual's features and preferences. It's the thrill of bringing someone's vision to life while adding my own artistic flair to the mix.

BLP: What is something that keeps you passionate and motivated in the industry each day?

SS: Continued education! I strongly believe that it’s the key to long-term success. The industry is constantly changing, and you have to be ready and willing to learn new things to keep. Taking classes keeps me inspired, motivates me to try new things and helps me see things from a different perspective!

BLP: What changes would you like to see the industry make in order to grow/change/evolve/be better than it was before?

SS: In an industry where vanity can take over, encouraging positive body image, self-care practices and mental wellness initiatives within the beauty community can help us evolve into a more inclusive and empowering space for all individuals.

BLP: What is a career goal you have for yourself?

SS: As a teen, YouTube was huge! I always wanted to be a YouTuber. The  influencer era is still here, and I would love to work with my favorite brands on TikTok and Instagram!
