How-To: Kerry Washington's Pulled Back Curly Hair Look

Kerry Washington’s slicked back curly hair look was named one of the best beauty looks at the 2023 Critics’ Choice Awards by Vogue.

Celebrity hair stylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew created Washington’s hairstyle using products from As I Am, Keracare and Uberliss.

Sturdivant-Drew wanted to complement Kerry’s off the shoulder Armani Privé dress with a bouncy and fun hairstyle that brought out her natural beauty. 

“Once I saw the dress I knew I wanted to pull it back, but I still wanted to see her hair. So we chose a sleek, pulled back look with lots of volume coming down the back,” Sturdivant-Drew said. “She looked like a goddess.”

How-To: 

1. 2. Spray hair down with the As I Am Rice Water Spray to pack in some extra moisture and strength.
3. To start creating the look, add in some hair extensions for fullness.
4. Blend natural hair with the extensions using the Keracare Gelessence Moisturizing Gel, and pull the hair back into a low ponytail.
5. Slick back the front of the hair with the same gel to lock it in and make the volume and texture of the ponytail pop.
6. Finish by applying Uberliss Smoothing RituOil to the ponytail to smooth any unwanted frizz and flyaways and to add a healthy shine.
