One of the my favorite things about the beauty industry is you never get bored. The industry is always evolving and changing, with new innovations seemingly coming out daily. There have been so many exciting product launches in the salon industry in 2024, so I put together this list of notable product innovations. Of course, the year is not over yet, and we are excited to see what launches await us during quarter four and the holidays.
1. Dyson Supersonic R
At New York Fashion Week 2024, Dyson unveiled a blowdryer like no one had ever seen before, the Supersonic R. Cool new technology went into the design of the dryer, including its Hyperdymum motor to create a small, light and precise styling tool. The dryer comes with five attachments, which have RFID sensors in them that communicate with the dryer to automatically adjust the motor and heater to deliver optimal airflow and temperature. Talk about smart! www.dyson.com
2. Sutra Heat Guard Blowout Cream
The '90s blowout is back, baby! So, it would make sense that manufacturers everywhere are creating products to help deliver voluminous, beautiful hair. What makes Sutra different with both its styling tools and products is that it has innovated technology to style hair perfectly without the damage typically associated with heat styling. It has patented its technology as "Healthy Heat," so we were excited when a blowout cream was added to its Heat Guard line to give us all of the '90s blowout fabulosity with none of the damage. Heat Guard Blowout Cream doubles down on the volume achieved during a blowout, while adding moisture, preventing damage and promoting smoothness and shine. https://sutrabeauty.com
3. Matrix A Curl Can Dream Wave Definition Collection
Though Matrix's A Curl Can Dream collection originally launched in 2020, the brand recently expanded the line to include products designed specifically for wavy hair. The Wave Definition Collection includes four products —a shampoo, conditioner, scrunch spray and leave-in cream—all formulated with the line's signature manuka honey to lock moisture into waves. Rose water is also included to provide lightweight moisture. www.matrix.com
4. Myavana Definitive HairID Hair Typing
Up until this year, stylists and consumers were classifying their hair according to the system developed in the 1990s by stylist André Walker. Though a novel system of its time, technology and improved knowledge have dictated that perhaps a new system was in order to better serve the client's needs. Beauty tech company Myavana took on this challenge and hit it out of the park with the Definitive HairID Hair Typing Infographic, which classifies hair in 3D rather than 2D with five additional factors outside of curl pattern: porosity, texture, elasticity, density, condition and texture. https://www.myavana.com/
5. Living Proof Scalp Care Density Serum
Going gray and thinning hair are huge concerns for many as they age. Enter Living Proof, an innovator in hair care technology. The brand created Scalp Care Density Serum in 2024 to restore the confidence in those with aging hair by increasing hair density, reducing shedding, decreasing hair thinning and promoting hair growth, all while reducing the appearance of graying hair. It sounds too good to be true, but it isn't. Speaking on the launch, a brand representative noted,"The pursuit of luscious and youthful hair is a growing concern that transcends age, gender and culture. Hair concerns such as premature graying and thinning are universal issues that affect people differently, but the emotional toll is undeniable, casting a shadow on the confidence that healthy hair brings. Those seeking solutions are often presented with products that fall short in terms of performance, addressing only a singular concern or taking too long to show visible results." www.livingproof.com
6. Larisa Love Andy Modern Artist Apron
Let's talk style for a minute. We are part of an aesthetic industry, so why should our clothing, aprons and bags be anything but cute? Of course, this becomes an issue when we have to focus on functionality over style, but you can have both — thanks to industry icon Larisa Love, who brought both her signature style and her knowledge of what stylists want to her collection of apparel, aprons, bags, accessories and jewelry. I am obsessed with the Modern Artist Collection (I have the bag). Perfect for hair professionals, the Modern Artist Apron keeps clothes clean with added functionality. It has a detachable towel holder for easy wash, sizeable top front pouch pocket and double slit tool section with kangaroo pouch pocket design at bottom. Plus, the Andy version is leopard, because why not? https://larisalove.com
7. Oligo Professionel CaluraTEN
Ten minutes! That's all you need to color hair with Oligo Professionel's CaluraTEN permanent hair color system. So, how did they do it in 10 minutes, you may ask? The system uses exothermic technology to maximize dye penetration and minimize hair damage. Each shade in the line was formulated to generate a specific increase in temperature to open the cuticle gently to achieve desired results.
Oligo President Ilan Cohen adds, "With CaluraTEN, we're empowering stylists to serve more clients in less time, enhancing their earning potential. This innovative express hair color service not only adds a valuable new option to their repertoire but also seamlessly integrates into the Calura ecosystem, complementing Calura Permanent and Calura Gloss, and reinforcing their expertise as true color professionals." https://oligoprofessionnel.com
8. Art + Acre Showerhead Filter
The stuff in our water can really impact the health of our hair, not to mention our color, but we can't really control the water supply. Luckily, we can get some of that control back with Art + Acre's Showerhead Filter. The filter was designed to be universal to showers, filtering hard water, heavy metals, chlorine and other contaminants to improve scalp health, hair strength and shine. Users felt an improvement in not only their hair health but their skin health as well. The company's founder Helen Reavey knows a thing or two about the scalp as a board-certified trichologist, saying, "With the showerhead filter launch, we encouraged individuals to embrace a long-term solution over quick fixes. With this launch, we are trying to educate that the long-term solution is clean water. Our filter is the first trichologist-developed and approved option on the market! It features 12 different filtration systems, including a proprietary blend of KDF-55, Calcium Sulfite and Charcoal. The showerhead removes both physical and chemical debris from water without compromising shower pressure." https://actandacre.com
9. Olivia Garden CurlyHair Collection
When it comes to brushes and curly hair, oftentimes all types will be recommended the same brush/comb. However, Olivia Garden recognized the need for different designs for curly hair based on their type with its CurlyHair Collection. The collection of three brushes: a pink wavy-curly hair brush for 2A-3A, a green curly hair brush for curly hair 2C-4A and a blue curly hair brush for 3B-4C. Each brush has different bristle sizes, shape and flexibility based on type need. The brushes are also curved to hug the scalp. https://store.oliviagarden.com

Rather than using propylene glycol, it includes sugar crystals and rice protein to wrap the hair while babassu and hemp provide moisture and memory. https://surfacehair.com
11. Clairol Professional BW2+
Most of us know the amazing highlighting action of Clairol Professional's BW2, but the brand took lightening to the next level with BW2+. Not only can BW2+ be used both on and off scalp, but it provides up to 9 levels of lightening in all over lightening, highlights and balayage. 13. Framesi Morphosis Scalp
We were going to include Framesi's new demi-permanent line in this write-up, but couldn't help but include the Scalp Collection that we have all fallen in love with. Morphosis Scalp is such a beautiful line of products to detox, refresh and revitalize the scalp with a light mint and tea fragrance. The line includes two pre-shampoo treatments, two types of shampoo and a leave-in treatment. President of Framesi North America Dennis Katawczik added, “Our partners in Italy were noticing the same trends we were in North America: the clean and conscious beauty movement and the rising interest in effective scalp care and its correlation to overall hair health. Our answer to this merging of values is the MORPHOSIS SCALP AND HAIR TREATMENT LINE, a “cleanical” approach to conscious beauty.” The line was designed for those with irritated, dry scalps or those who needed to detoxify and revitalize their scalp. https://www.framesiprofessional.com
14. Arete Alchemic Color
New to the professional salon industry is Arete, a brand created to deliver natural and nurturing hair care, all while being both luxurious and effective. Though the line was introduced with a range of hair and scalp care, its Alchemic Color captured our attention for its combination of ancient remedies with modern formulations to deliver natural color that nurtures and protects the hair. The color line is ammonia-free and vegan. https://aretebeauty.com
15. Fromm Curl Studio
Fromm expanded its styling tool range to include tools designed just for curly hair, but it didn't just stop at brushes and combs. Curl studio tools come is a beautiful teal shade and are designed to be durable and ergonomic.
